Get ready for Spring with a local trip to the Malibu State Park area for warm water pan fish and carp. The cost to be paid day of the event is $75.00 paid directly to local fly fishing and fly tying guru Dean Endress of the Fisherman's Spot. Please wear comfortable hiking boots and attire, and be prepared to pay the entrance fee to the state park. Car pooling is highly recommended. Use your 4 wt. through 6 wt. rods for bass, pan fish and even carp. Dean Endress will be demonstrating his go to patterns at Vise On Ice Thursday April 20th at 7 pm at the South Pasadena Roundtable. GEAR FOR THE APRIL 29TH OUTING to MALIBU CREEK STATE PARK
a 6wt, with a Floating line should cover everything : Bass,
Bluegill, even a shot at Carp or Catfish.
can use a 3 wt for the Bluegill as well
Leaders: nothing fancy a 9 ft tapered to 3X to 5X will be fine.
Bring spools of tippet as well
FLIES : Any Trout nymph in sizes #8 thru #14 will be fine,
Favorites include : Hares Ear, Prince, Prince, Zug Bug & Tellico
will be very nice. If they have Rubber or Silicone legs on them so
much then better, also Bead head and Non Bead head versions allow
an Angler to cover various depth of water .
Do Not Forget WOOLEY BUGGERS in Olive, Black & Rusty Orange, sizes
#6 thru #12, Beadhead and non Bedahead versions. if the Buggers
have Rubber or Silicone legs, that would be preferred. (Bas,
Bluegill, Catfish , etc. show a marked preference for Silicone or
Rubber legged flies)
Dress Code: it will be cool in the morning, but will warm nicely
as the day goes, dress accordingly, not a bunch of heavy
insulation and most certainly a breathable sun shirt. Wear your
favorite fishing hat, polarized sunglasses and a buff is good. put
on Sunscreen as well. wear comfortable hiking shoes, we will be
walking in about a mile from the parking lot, mostly along a
graded dirt road, but we'll also be rock hoping some and
scrambling around and over rocks in some areas along the creek.
Do not wear sneakers or flip flops.
