Let's say you have something like a month or so free to devote to a fishing trip somewhere with a close friend, you want to go somewhere new and exotic, you don’t have big bucks, but you want big trout and big adventure. What would you do? Have another beer, get control of your senses, and head to Montana instead?

This month our presenters are a couple of brothers who didn’t rein in their senses and skipped that extra beer. Instead, they researched, planned, researched a little more, and then headed to Patagonia (in Argentina, not the store in Old Pasadena). Specialized travel agents and high-dollar estancias were not on the menu. They packed their own gear and camping equipment, bought their own plane tickets, and hoped to find transportation when they got there to take them to the campsites they hoped to get into. Hope was important in this mission.

The brothers had their adventure and learned a lot in the process. They caught huge sea-run brown trout in an amazing river and spring creek at the bottom of Patagonia (from where you can see the Antarctic on a clear day…), camping out, cooking their own meals from supplies found at the local grocery stores, and meeting the locals. Lucky for us, they documented their entire adventure with plenty of photos and video, and have created a program which is not only entertaining and humorous, but very helpful to anyone else considering a similar run to Patagonia.

Mel and Neil Light grew up in Santa Rosa, and became fishing fanatics in their teen years. Mel is a past president of Wilderness Fly Fishers club (West Los Angeles), and fishes from three to six months of every year, having hit almost every river in the Western United States. Neil is a woodworking artisan based in Santa Rosa, and has fished fresh and saltwaters all over the world. Both of them are innovative fly tiers.

If you’ve ever thought of doing a fishing trip which is a little out of the ordinary, you should come to this program Thursday evening, 7:30 p.m., November 12th, at the San Marino Masonic Lodge, 3130 Huntington Drive, San Marino, 91108.
