SoCal Bamboo Rodmakers’ Get together

On Saturday, April 27, 2019 a group of Southern California rodmakers are getting together at the PCC Club House to discuss a variety of bamboo rod making issues. Between 10 to 14 makers are expected to attend and 30 to 40 bamboo rods with a variety of different tapers should be available to cast.

PCC members are cordially invited to attend. You do not need to want to learn rod making. If you are simply curious about bamboo rods this would be a good opportunity to cast a wide variety of rods and get answers to any questions you might have regarding bamboo rods from some of the folks that make them.

We will start the day at 9 am with about 1½ hours of casting followed by an informal question and answer session where you can talk individual makers. That way, if you have no interest in making rods you will be able to go about your business without needing to sit through discussions of various technical aspects of bamboo rod making. If you are curious about making rods you are welcome to stay as long as you wish.

The balance of the day will be spent in a round table discussion on topics such as splitting cane, flattening nodes, straightening strips, planning techniques, hollowing techniques, gluing and binding strips to form the rod blank, finishing blanks, wrapping and finishing guides, making grips and reel seats, etc.. There are no formal presentations planned.

This get together is intended to be very informal. All attendees will have to bring their own food and drinks as none will be provided. As a result, there is no fee required to attend. However, we would like to have you register so we know what the seating requirements will be. To register, please send an email to jwhealy@qry.com with the subject “SoCal Rodmakers Get together” and include your name. (See email link above)
