HCR is a destination fishery with two miles of private water to fish. HCR includes 9 cabins which allow 2 anglers per cabin and 18 total for our club.  The ranch is usually booked solid year around and PCC is fortunate to have a long weekend allocated to us every year.  The ranch is dedicated to dry fly fishing, but the ranch manager (Kevin) often allows subsurface fishing depending on the water conditions.  The ranch also has a small fly shop in the office.

Fishing rules are:

  • Catch and Release only
  • Dry Fly Fishing unless ranch manager concession – based on water conditions
  • No wading in the creek
  • Barbless hooks only
  • CA Fishing License required
  • No pets

The individual cost this year is $550 for a member and $650 for a non-member.

Due to the popularity of the trip, PCC will have a drawing for spots. If you are interested in going, please respond back to the email and indicate that you would like your name to be placed in the drawing. The opening period to be placed in the drawing will last for one week from this trip notification email. If your name is drawn, you will be contacted and requested to register.

Registration will require the full $550 amount to be paid up front.  There are no refunds on this trip.  After you are contacted, you will have three days to register and pay the full amount. There will also be a back-up or waitlist as well if names that are drawn do not register. If after registering, you unable to go, the back-up list will be used to find replacements but there are no refunds from PCC. The replacement will need to pay the original registrant directly.

HCR includes 9 cabins. The cabins include fully equipped kitchens including refrigerator/freezer, a bedroom with two beds, single bathroom with shower, and a living/dining area with a pull-out couch that converts to a bed. Each has an outside deck area and there are briquet barbeques. Most participants utilize the kitchen but restaurants are nearby in Mammoth Lakes. Food is not provided. There is usually a pot-luck dinner on Saturday or Sunday depending on the weather. This is a fun gathering.

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to HCR. A list of participants will be sent to facilitate carpooling and travel.

Fishing guides are available through the ranch. If a fishing guide is desired, the participant will need to make a separate booking and arrangement through the ranch. Hiring a guide is popular with many anglers who do not know the ranch or are new to fly fishing.

Check-in and entry into the ranch can begin at 4:00 PM on Friday and anglers can start fishing right away. Check-out is by 11:00 AM on Monday, but Kevin allows fishing to around 2:00 PM.

Cabin assignments will be made after registration is complete. PCC will try to accommodate cabinmate preferences as is practical. Based on the nature of this trip and drawing, it will not always be possible to do this. The cabins do allow separate sleeping areas with the pull-out couch in the living area and a closed off bedroom.

HCR is an absolutely great place to fish and spend time and I would recommend checking out the website. If interested on going on this trip, please send me an email to be placed in the drawing. Please Include: Name, Email, Phone Number. If your name is picked, you will be notified through email. You will then need to register and pay the full amount of $550.

Best,

Matt Swanson
